Below is a list of proven instructors which outlines their qualifications and experience.  

Christian Praestegaard

Christian Praestegaard is a senior risk management consultant for SDS Consulting Corporation.  Chris has 28 years of experience in the risk management discipline as a program developer, process auditor, seminar presenter and facilitating consultant. In the 1980s and 1990s Chris was part of the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE) Risk Management Group for MacMillian Bloedel Ltd. A leading company in pulp and paper and wood processing operations in Canada, the United States and Asia. It was in this time that Chris was a member of the team building, assessing and mentoring Process Safety Management for MacMillian Bloedel operations under the International Loss Control Institute (ILCI) 5 Star Program, then the only other Process Safety Management system outside the United States chemical manufacturing industry.

Currently Chris is certified as an external auditor for the Partnerships health and safety audit protocol approved by the Alberta Safety Council and the Alberta Association of Safety Partners. In his time with SDS Consulting Corporation Chris has successfully developed 4 PACE qualified HSE audit protocols as well as audit instruments for the OSAS 18001 and CSA Z1000 for oil and gas and heavy industry clients. He has experience as a Quality Assurance Manager where he developed and implemented ISO 9001 quality assurance management systems for a variety of companies in Western Canada. Chris has developed a variety of training and education programs for entry- and advanced-level positions in different types of operations. He has experience in providing training for conducting hazard assessments, incident / accident investigation, supervisor workshops and quality management processes. Chris has also developed risk management process controls and procedure manuals for concurrent drilling operations for four major oil and gas companies and as set of Environment, Health and Safety auditing protocols for two international oil drilling companies.

Previous PSM related certifications / affiliations: PITS / Enform External H&S Auditor from 1994 to 2010. Alberta Forest Products Association from 2000 to 2007, Contract ISO 9001 training course instructor for BSI Canada 2006 – 2007.

Aaron Van Ginhoven, P.Eng

As the Senior Risk Management Consultant for SDS Consulting Corp,  Aaron Van Ginhoven, P.Eng has built a reputation at the go-to HAZOP facilitator in Alberta for entire facilities. His clients include virtually all major oil and gas companies in Alberta including Conoco Phillips, Cenovus, Encana, TransCanada, Nexen, Suncor, Talisman and TAQA as well as many small producers.

Client loyalty is high for Aaron due to his practical, competent, and straightforward approach.  Clients appreciate his strong communication skills and his effectiveness in bridging the gap often found between operations and engineering. On many occasions, Aaron has coached his clients in writing procedures and manuals relating to Process Safety Management. 

For the past 10 years, Aaron has specialized as a facilitator and trainer in risk management services. Aaron has performed hundreds of facilitations including HAZID, LOPA, SIL, ORA, and HAZOP. Prior to his facilitation experience, Aaron was an operator in the Medicine Field Gas Fields, Syncrude in Fort McMurray, and Transalta power production facilities.  His field experience has proven valuable in his practical approach with Process Hazard Analysis and Process Safety Management.

Aaron earned his Engineering Degree from the University of Regina with over 18 years of experience as a Professional engineer.  He is registered with APEGA. In 2015, APEGA invited Aaron to provide a presentation on Overpressure Risk Assessments.

Jochen Dimigen, P.Eng

Jochen Dimigen (“JD”) is a Professional Engineer with over 18 years of experience.  As an SDS Consultant, he has facilitated over 200 HAZOPs including full facilities for some of the largest Oil and Gas Companies in Alberta. JD also specializes in Process Safety Management (PSM) Audits along with Safety Audits with certifying Partner ACSA.  Due to his experience with PSM audits, JD understands how effective PSM systems function and best practices of such systems. 

In addition to audits, he has also developed and implemented over a dozen of Health and Safety Management Systems for SDS clients, which meet the requirements for Certificate of Recognition (COR).  In 2013, he was heavily involved in a large 6-month project to create all new Task Hazard Assessments for one of Canada’s largest utility companies.  Not only does JD have hands-on experience with PSM, but also has researched the topic extensively.  JD has a strong following of clients who appreciate his efficiency and expertise.

Randy Jaggard, P.Eng

Randy Jaggard, P.Eng has over 20 years’ experience in process safety management in the oil and gas industry.  He is recognized for ability to engage all stakeholders in the implementation of programs and for his expertise in regulatory matters including Alberta Environmental and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER).

For 14 years Randy held management roles in Environmental, Health and Safety at Newalta Corporation.  He started as Environmental, Health and Safety Manager.  In this capacity, Randy developed and implemented Corporate Risk Management Manual, Control Management Principles and Methods, Pressure Equipment Management and Safety Audit Program.  Furthermore, Randy conducted Internal Plant Audits and participated in numerous HAZOPs.  Randy was promoted to Director, Environmental Health and Safety – Corporate Services where he oversaw the development of corporate training and e-learning systems, led and supervised employees in Regulatory Compliance, Surface Land, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental Health and Safety, and participated in development of the Oilfield Waste Liability Program.

Randy has earned diplomas in Chemical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science, Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary.  He is registered with APEGA and also is an Internal Safety Auditor for Alberta Safety Council. Randy is on the technical committee for CSA Z341: Storage in Underground Formations.
